We Got Our Second Wind

July 14th, 2008

We got our second wind the moment we saw the 50 girls at the Limuru Presbytery Orphanage. It was a great first moment for many of us on our first mission trip. After spending a meal with the girls, we went to school with them and did crafts with roughly 800 of their classmates. Rainy weather didn’t allow us to play games outside, but the kids loved the beaded braclets and scratch art. We are looking forward to spending more time with the girls tomorrow, but for now we look forward to bed after two nights of sleeping on an airplane. Thanks for your prayers, and be sure to check out the new photos below!

The Kenya Team Arrived Safely!

July 14th, 2008
Sasa!

We have arrived in Kenya! All 44 bags and 22 Team Members! Praise God! Travelling went perfectly and our team is already bonding so much. We are freshening up and packing to go to our first orphanage for lunch in Limuru and then to a school with 800 children to do a Vacation Bible School with them. We are all so anxious and excited. We’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

Kenya Team 08

I’m so glad that you’ve chosen to follow along with our trip to Kenya.  The students have been working hard to prepare for the trip and we are all getting excited as the time of our departure gets closer and closer.

While we’re in Kenya we will be serving at three orphanages.  In Limuru (about one hour outside of Nairobi), we’ll be leading a Vacation Bible School for 800 elementary school students, and doing a number of different projects on behalf of a girls orphanage that is currently housing about 60 young girls.  In Narok (about 4 hours west of Nairobi), we will be drywalling, digging ditches and building furniture for an orphanage that will one day serve over 100 boys.  Then, in Nyeri (about 3 hours north of Nairobi), we will be doing construction, teaching and sports with long time St. Andrew’s missions partner Bernard Muindi, at his orphanage which serves nearly 200 boys and girls.

In addition to all of this, we’ll be speaking in churches, connecting with old friends at Daystar University (just outside of Nairobi) and getting to know about 30 Kenyan youth that will be our ministry partners in Limuru and Narok.

Thanks for your prayers and all of your ongoing support!  We can’t wait to have you join us on our journey!

Yours in Christ,

Jim
