Thanksgiving Serve Opportunity

December 2nd, 2013

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make our annual Teen Challenge Thanksgiving Serve Opportunity a success! Together we served over 150 men, women and children from Santa Ana, all of whom are involved in Teen Challenge’s outreach ministries.  In addition to a delicious meal provided by St. Andrew’s finest, local pastor Fernando Tamara delivered a powerful message and led several visitors to the Lord!  Praise God!  Thanks to the nearly 110 members of the St. Andrew’s family who contributed to the delicious Thanksgiving dinner and served during this powerful ministry opportunity.  We couldn’t of done it without you!

Thanksgiving Outreach Recap

November 27th, 2012

Thank you to all who contributed to the Thanksgiving Day Outreach by helping provide a Thanksgiving meal to the children of the Teen Challenge Learning Center and their families. It was such a blessing to be able to provide them with a place to come, build community, and enjoy time and a meal together, while giving God the glory.

Students Serve Teen Challenge

October 19th, 2012

This past Monday night our students from Refuge (high school ministry) had an opportunity to go and serve at Teen Challenge in Santa Ana.   With over 60 students participating, they rode over in a packed bus along with a few additional vehicles, willing and wanting to serve the community.  They arrived and after prayer and without delay began painting, cleaning, sweeping, digging and many other tasks that they were asked to do.  It was a joy and privilege to see the next generation of followers serving joyfully, making an impact in the lives of others.  We are so proud of them!  So proud.

Highlights of Thanksgiving and Post-Thanksgiving Outreaches

December 1st, 2011

Thank you to all who helped serve this Thanksgiving season! Amazing things happened because of your gifts of service and friendship.

The Teen Challenge Thanksgiving Service started off with God providing plenty of food through the St. Andrew’s Congregation, and plenty of helpers to load the food into the van.  Lexi Larison organized the volunteers serving the food at Teen Challenge and Malia Griffice organized the volunteers working with the children.  Teen Challenge staff were amazing hosts and led the adults in a Spirit filled worship service. As the sermon was coming to a close, Laura Johnson was used by God to bring a woman to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Praise be to God for calling us unto Himself, and praise be to God for making St. Andrew’s & Teen Challenge into one community.

The Post-Thanksgiving Worship Service at Village of Hope was another big success. Jeff Herdman and his Life Group coordinated the gathering of the food, the transporting of the food, and the serving of the food.  Roughly 200 people were fed at the event!  Janet McAnlis coordinated the watching of 53 children and they learned about Jesus healing the hurting. Donna Naccacia from the Village of Hope needs to be thanked, for without her the event never would have happened. Jason Griffice did the opening prayer, Kristel Miles led the worship band, Emily Schilling read the Scripture, and Laura Johnson preached on “True Discipleship”.  It was a powerful and moving event filled with thanksgiving and praise as St. Andrew’s members joined together with residents of Teen Challenge, Heritage House, and Village of Hope.

Here are some quotes from the two events that give us snapshots of how God moved:

“We experienced more joy and gratitude this Thanksgiving because you gave us the opportunity to step outside our comfort zone and experience more of God’s unlimited life in Christ.”

“We have always wanted to serve on Thanksgiving but never got around to it.  This Thanksgiving has been the most meaningful one we can remember.”

“My kids were scared to come and now are shocked at how many things they have in common with the kids here.  I love seeing them have fun serving—really all they are doing is making new friends.”

“What an amazing day!  We are so blessed to have been part of Teen Challenge’s Thanksgiving outreach.  I hope we brought half the joy to our new friends as it brought to us!!”

A mom from Village of Hope:  “Wow, there really are a lot of you who care about us.”

Thank you all for playing a part in God being praised through these two events.

Teen Challenge Graduation Recap

October 20th, 2011

Last week, a few of St. Andrew’s members were able to represent St. Andrew’s at another Teen Challenge graduation ceremony. We gathered together to celebrate four men: Martin, Matthew, Eric, and David. One was completing the initial induction at the Santa Ana facilities, and the other three were finishing up their internships there.

During the service, Pastor Fernando Tamara shared a passionate and encouraging message. Pastor Tamara currently serves as the Director of The Jesse Miranda Center for Hispanic Leadership. His message focused on Acts 14, charging the men to remain faithful to God even in the difficult periods that may come after graduation. During these times, serving the Lord may seem like a struggle; but God sees the good things that are to come – and will reward this faithfulness! Our lives should be a living example of what the power of God can do.

Afterwards, the men shared their testimonies, which were authentic and inspiring as always. The Serve Department would love for you to join us at the next Teen Challenge Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, November 17 to encourage and celebrate the transformation for Christ in their lives.

Teen Challenge Choir Leads Worship Labor Day Weekend

September 7th, 2011

We were privileged to once again welcome the New Creation Choir from Teen Challenge (both Orange County and Riverside Counties)  at St. Andrew’s this past Labor Day weekend in all 4 worship services.

The New Creation Choir always provides us with spirited and passionate testimonies and worship.  This past weekend, the member who shared his testimony actually grew up at St. Andrew’s and also went to high school at Newport Harbor.  We rejoice with him and his family at all God has done in his life through the ministry of Teen Challenge the past 4 months!  We also welcomed David Jones, (former choir member who has been with us the past several years) as the new director of the New Creation Choir.  As part of our tradition of hosting Teen Challenge each Labor Day weekend, we also heard from our dear friend, Ron Brown, the executive director of Teen Challenge Orange County who reminded our congregation of the many opportunities afforded us as the family of St. Andrew’s to serve together with Teen Challenge during the year – including several mission trips around the world, as well as in Mississippi, and closer to home, on our own campus each week with Northeast of the Well on Monday evenings.  Ron Brown thanked St. Andrew’s for their strong prayerful and financial support in assisting the ministry of Teen Challenge, as well as celebrating and participating in the graduations of those from the Teen Challenge Program.

We were also blessed to have Vanguard University students and interns lead us in worship, along with the Teen Challenge Choir – which allowed for our Sanctuary Choir, as well as Brandon Muchow, a well-deserved weekend of rest before our Fall kick-up begins!

Teen Challenge Graduation

August 19th, 2011

Yesterday, St. Andrew’s members joined in to celebrate the Teen Challenge graduates in a wonderful ceremony at the Teen Challenge facilities.  See what people are saying and check out the highlights of the day:

“My favorite part of participating in graduations at Teen Challenge is witnessing the reconciling power of the Holy Spirit. Students commonly share how the program has helped restore broken relationships.  Because of God’s power sons are once again lovingly embraced by their parents, couples on the verge of divorce are now starting anew, men are becoming better fathers.  God’s goodness and mercy is evident through tears of joy and thanksgiving from both graduates and their families.” – Jennifer

“One of the joys of going to Teen Challenge is witnessing the passionate commitment everyone feels towards the program. It comes naturally just by hearing of the change that the Lord has made in the lives of the men—the wonderful and mysterious ways He works to save them. It comes naturally after hearing a powerful message expressed with such love as Laura Johnson gave at the graduation on Thursday, August 18.” – Alan

The ceremony started with worship and Scripture.

Our very own Laura Johnson, Minister of Outreach Ministries, gave a message based on Luke 10 and encouraged the men, as well as everyone else in the room, to continue to share the Word with others and evangelize.

After that, staff members shared about each man and gave them a verse to reflect on.

Then, each graduate had the opportunity to share a little about themselves, their reflections on their experience, and some goals they wish to accomplish.

The ceremony concluded with prayer for the graduates.

After the ceremony, there was time for refreshments and fellowship.

Teen Challenge is having a Game Night on Sunday, August 28 at 3:30 p.m.  If you would like to participate in their Game Night, learn more about Teen Challenge or get involved in other aspects of their ministry, please contact Lexi Larison in the Serve office, 949.574.2273.
